Much of the hardware, along with the bearings, was too corroded to clean up without an acid bath and refinishing.  Luckily I had some old German bearings, vintage mounting bolts and vintage sex bolt hardware to tidy up the job.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Some of the replacement hardware was in too new of condition to match the patina of the complete.  I never enjoy seeing overly new looking old stock on a complete that has had some life.  So it was the case with some of my vintage hardware and I found it necessary to distress the finish on a few overly clean surfaces.

A couple other actions were taken to clean this complete.  For example I cleaned the plastics with soap and water.  I also put some very fine sandpaper to use on some grungy areas on the tail dome and rails where dirt had become ground into the plastic surface; the clean up here was comparable to taking it for a spin in a nice clean cement skate park.  A minimal amount of oil was added to some of the remaining hardware.

Below you can see a few before and after shots of the grip tape clean up job before the addition of better hardware.

Finally, to top it all off I wanted to make it a bit closer to being the dichotomy of my old white rider.  I threw on a few colored sex bolts(because I had mine pimped like that) and a vintage set of green first run Bullets to match the last set of wheels I rode on that deck.  I would have swapped out the trucks for an all metal set of black Gull Wings but due to the Indy sticker on the top and trying to be true to the object, I left it with the original anodized Indy's.
