BETTY’S ARCHIVE

Betty’s Archive follows skateboarding through a period of reinvention—and a parallel coming of age. As boards narrowed toward the popsicle form, their graphics shed many earlier limits, embracing art, parody, appropriation, sexuality and provocation. Rare on old-school decks, the female image emerged as a recurring expression of this new freedom—and the lens through which Betty’s Archive took shape. Informed by years in art school and museum work, the collection considers these decks as cultural artifacts: compelling, complicated and open to interpretation.
